🥗 All About Food - Progress Documentation

| Week 10-11 | Rita Lei

Problem Statement:

Modern people aged between 18-45 years old with an interest in cooking and healthy eating find it inconvenient to explore personalized healthy recipes tutorials to learn from, switch between multiple platforms to purchase ingredients with various proportions and interact with screens via their hands while cooking.

Design Opportunities:

A cooking App features at video tutorials and customized recipes based on personal food preferences and health conditions. It allows voice interaction and in-App ingredient package purchasing.

🥟 Prototype Version 4 🥢
Let's take a look :)
1. Onboarding

In order to generate customized recipes based on users' personal preferences, EasyCook navigates

first-time users to set up preferences and goals by simply following three straightforward steps:

Step 1 Choose favorite categories -> Step 2 Set up the goal -> Step 3 Input health condition info

2. Tutorials

EasyCook is featured at video tutorials and voice interaction. The wayfinding system is easy straightforward:

  • Search: Users can search the content by recipe, cook or menu

  • Filter: Users can change or reset the categories they have chosen in the onboarding process

  • Sort: Users can sort the video tutorials based on recommended, most appreciated, most collected, most discussed, or most recent

3. Recipe Details

From the video tutorials page, users can choose whatever tutorial they like to view more details.

In the recipe details page, not only can users watch video tutorials, but also follow the text-based instructions step by step. Also, users can ask EasyCook to read the instruction for them by voice interaction while cooking, which brings more convenience. They can save the recipe to their collection for later.

4. Profile

In the profile page, there are two different main categories: "Works" and "Orders".

"Works" means the works that users have created, collected, and liked.

In this category, there are 4 subcategories: "Works", "Collections", "Likes" and "Analysis".

"Analysis" means the infographic overview where users can see their achievements and progress,

aiming to create more self-achievement and engagement for the users.

5. Create a New Recipe

EasyCook encourages users to generate content and create a community for cooking lovers.

In the profile page, users can create their recipes by simply clicking the "+" floating button.

Here is the form that users need to full fill, which includes the edge conditions and error conditions.

6. Store

Different from other cooking Apps, EasyCook allows users to purchase ingredients directly in the App. It brings more convenience without switching between different AppsMoreover, not only can users buy ingredients individually, but they can also purchase packages with all the ingredients they need to prepare for the meal.

7. Shopping Basket

Shopping Basket is where to store the ingredients and ingredient packages that customers want to purchase. The checkout workflow is simple and the User Interface is clean, without extra functions, to decrease the visual noises and create a straightforward user experience.

Secondary Research & User Test

"Since I would like to cook for my family, if the recommendations could be based on multi-users' health conditions, it would be perfect! "

🍏 Current Interview with Expert 🍎
Feedback from a senior design expert in DiDi
Expert Background
  • Engaged in the User Experience industry for nearly 10 years, Yelu Liu is currently serving as a senior design expert at DiDi, responsible for experience design work of financial business-related products.

  • He once served as a design manager in Baidu, a senior interaction designer of Taobao and Tencent. He used to involve in diverse fields: instant messaging, community, information, video, e-commerce, and finance. And he was a speaker of IXDC Beijing 2016 / Shenzhen 2019 Workshop.

  • He provided user experience training and expert consulting services for some startup companies, consulting companies, and design organizations.

  • Yelu Liu is good at design experience innovation and has more than 50 domestic and foreign invention patents.

Interview Objection
  • How would you feel about the product solve customers' pain-points

  • How do you think about the features of this product

  • How do you think about the interaction designs of the wireframe

  • Other comments and suggestions

Interview Feedback
  • For the functionality: the product does solve customers' pain-points, but the key features are not emphasized enough -> Should focus more on the "healthy recommendations" to make the product unique and stands out in the marketing place

  • For the data input: the onboarding process is straightforward, but "the health reports" may not be supportive enough to generate healthy recipes, due to the data set -> It could be more durable and high-end to import the data from an IoT device such as a smartwatch, which is more precious and could be updated during time. And then, design the workflow of "the importing process".

  • For the voice interaction technique: thinking about the real scenario of the kitchen, there could be very noisy while using the smoke exhaust ventilator, the oven, or when the water is boiling. As a result, it is hard to interact with the App via voice under such a noisy circumstance -> It could be better to use Air Gesture without touching the screen directly.

  • For the wireframe interactions: the overall is cohesive, but the key features should be emphasized more; some details of interaction design should be refined.

 🍳 Next Step 🍗
Prototype version 5 & Remote user test & Hi-fi UI
Plan for Next
  • Research about air gesture & Figure out multi-user health conditions input

  • Develop the Prototype Version 5 based on the feedback from user interview  & expert interview

  • Run the remote user test & refine the design

  • Moodboard & Style Guideline for the high-fidelity UI design

  • Ask for feedback towards the Moodboard & Style Guideline

  • Prepare to develop high-fidelity UI
