Process Documentation:

Smart Fridge - Oct 18, 2019 (PDF)

What did I plan to do?
  • 2 more Interviews with retired elderly people

  • 2 Interviews with busy middle class who have kids to take care of

  • 1 Interview with a maid

  • 1 Interview with a housewife

  • Molecule Validation

  • MVP updated + Test Plan

What did I actually do?
  • 1 Interviews with busy middle class who has a child to take care of

  • 1 Interview with a maid

  • 1 Interview with a housewife

  • 2 Hypothesis & 2 Molecules

  • Process documentation organization

  • One visual screen for prototype

What worked well:

  • Interviews with diverse target users helped me figure out who had the most "painful" pain points, which meant this group could be the most valuable group for me to design for.

  • I finally ended up with two target users: the retired elderly people & busy middle class with kids

  • The process documentation helped me to reorganize what I had done so far and improved efficiency.

What freaked me out:
  • Thinking about one universal product which can solve multiple problems for multiple users was hard and too much for the MVP in the beginning.

  • Brainstorming ideas was good but narrowing them down into specific direction was more significant and practical.

What would I do differently next time:
  • "You are NOT SUPERMAN who can fit everyone's needs."

  • "DON'T stick with PERFECTION in the very beginning."

  • "STAY AWAY FROM HIGHLY POLISHED VISUAL but TEST ROUGH CONCEPT first."

  • "DON'T just interview RELATIVES or FRIENDS."

What I plan to do next week:
  • Focus on 1 molecule: retired elderly people

  • 3 more Interviews with retired elderly people (but not be my relatives)

  • 2 Interviews with busy middle class who have kids to take care of

  • Insights and validation

  • MVP  + Rough Prototype

  • Test Plan
